OGC Nice could loan Tanguy Nianzou

Bayern Munich have started the new campaign with the centre-back partnership of Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez. Julian Nagelsmann has considerable depth in this position following the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, while Benjamin Pavard can do a good job at the heart of defence.

De Ligt’s arrival has raised doubts over Tanguy Nianzou’s immediate future at Bayern. As things stand, the French defender is the team’s fifth centre-back. After getting decent playing time last season, Nianzou might not get the desired playing time this year. He may have to apply for a loan, with Ligue 1 emerging as a potential destination.

According to GGFN, OGC Nice are considering a loan move for Tanguy Nianzou. The hierarchy is divided on the signing of a young defender, but Nianzou is one of the defenders considered. The French club are yet to open talks with Die Roten to explore this deal.

Bayern are ready to part ways with Tanguy Nianzou before the end of the transfer window. Both the Bavarian club and Hasan Salihamidzic value Nianzou highly, so a permanent transfer is unlikely to take place. Die Roten will be open to a loan to ensure the French defender gets consistent playing time this season.

Nianzou had a difficult first season in Bavaria after arriving from PSG in 2020. The French defender struggled with injuries throughout the 2020/21 campaign which made it difficult for him to claim a place in the starting XI.

Nianzou’s second season at Bayern was much better. He ended up getting 874 minutes playing time in all competitions, managing one goal and one assist in 22 appearances. Nianzou needs to play much more regularly this season to continue his development. (Stats courtesy of Transfermarkt)

Bayern would ideally like Nianzou to get a Bundesliga loan. The French defender will get used to Bundesliga football and eventually return to Bavaria next summer to compete for a place in the starting XI. Chris Richards has enjoyed a loan move to Hoffenheim for the past 18 months, so a similar approach for a temporary transfer may help Nianzou.

If Nianzou asks for a permanent transfer this summer, then Bayern should look to insert a buyout clause. The French defender has the potential to be a top defender, so securing his long-term future should be a priority for Die Roten. The next three weeks will decide Nianzou’s immediate future.
