Newcastle United loan star scores smart game-winning goal and another MOTM performance

Elliot Anderson continues to have a dramatic effect on Bristol Rovers’ season.

The 19-year-old on loan from Newcastle United joined the club on a temporary basis in January 2022.

The Ligue 2 club having collected just 35 points in their first 25 games (10 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses), averaging 1.44 points per game.

With Elliot Anderson now in their last 17 league matches, Bristol Rovers have collected an additional 34 points (10 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses) at an average of 2.00 points per game.

Joey Barton says if Elliot Anderson is to get Eddie Howe’s attention he needs to score as many goals and assists as possible while on loan at League Two level, on top of his excellent all-around performance.

Well, he’s certainly going in the right direction, now with five goals and three assists, including four goals in his last seven appearances.

On Friday morning, Elliot Anderson scooped the League Two Goal of the Month award for March (watch that brilliant individual goal below).

Then Good Friday got better and better for the Newcastle United loan star, as the man of the game performance against promotion rivals Salford was capped off with Elliot Anderson scoring the game’s only goal .

His outstanding contribution so far, having propelled Bristol Rovers into the promotion table, with Friday’s goal keeping them fifth in the table with four games to play, clubs 4th-7th qualify for the play-offs and Rovers now have four points ahead of eighth. Plus, they still retain a small chance of automatic promotion, as they’re five points off the pace.

Here’s how Bristol World reported on Anderson’s Good Friday posting:

Still Memorial Stadium entertainer, Elliot Anderson almost produced another great moment. The Newcastle United loanee’s hopeful chip took a last-minute divot and went just the other side of the post.

For all their hard work, Rovers were rewarded for their efforts by opening the scoring. Substitute Luke Thomas sent the ball to Elliot Anderson on his right side and he caught King in his post.
