Steve Howey praised the recent development of young Wolves Dion Sanderson but wondered if he would get regular playing time if he joined Newcastle.
According to Football Insider, the Magpies, working on a tight budget compared to some of their Premier League rivals, have launched an offer of just £ 1.5million for the 21-year-old defender’s services.
Should Newcastle buy Ajer?
Sanderson has spent the last two seasons on loan with Cardiff and Sunderland respectively, gaining valuable experience both in the Championship and then in Ligue 1 with the Black Cats.
He only made 37 appearances during those two loan periods, but it was during his time at Sunderland that he impressed quite significantly.
However, despite his obvious abilities, having only made one senior appearance for Wolves in a Carabao Cup game two seasons ago, the versatile defender has no Premier League experience and Howey has exclusively said Football fan that he wouldn’t be a regular if he moved to St James’ Park:
“I watched him quite a few times and was quite impressed with him – I think he has a bright future, it’s just too bad he got hurt.
“He’s got first-team experience, but is he going to play week after week for Newcastle, probably not. So, it has to be something that everyone has to watch. “
