Alvaro Fernandez spotted at Preston North End game for possible loan – Reuters Sports News

Manchester United’s Alvaro Fernandez has been spotted at Deepdale for Preston North End’s pre-season game against Leicester.

The 19-year-old has just completed an impressive season where he was named Under-23 Player of the Year.

The Spaniard hasn’t been included in the first-team pre-season tour due to a loan move on the cards which now looks set to be finalised.

George Hodgson from Lancs Live said “it looks like Man United’s Alvaro Fernandez (LWB), linked to PNE and seen as a target, is in Deepdale watching.”

Under Ryan Lowe, Preston operates with a back three that will suit Fernandez’s style of play.

Without a regular left-winger last season, Lowe was often forced to play midfielders in this position, which bodes well for Fernandez’s chances of playing.

Their main rivals for the job will be the experienced Irish duo of Greg Cunningham and former United academy product Robbie Brady.

A classy player on the ball, Fernandez often enjoys advancing, with a variety of overlapping runs and taking up positions on the pitch.

Calm and laid on the ball, the youngster displays a maturity well above his age.

However, lacking a bit of top-end pace, he can be overtaken defensively at times, but his clever positioning and decision-making often make up for that.

As United’s main Under-23 hub last season, the left-back bagged four goals and six assists for the season.

A potential star for the future, a loan spell in the Championship is a great first step for Fernandez into senior football.
